R.I.P. the Hunk of Junk

I guess the inevitable has happened. My laptop bit the dust, kissed the floor, smacked itself beyond repair. We all knew it was coming, what with all the periodic blue screens of death popping up during the last week. Then last night as I was in the middle of typing up a totally unrelated post I walked away from my laptop for just a second. A second that will live in infamy. I left the (gasping for it's last breath) piece of hardware on the edge of the couch and Hope, being the sweetheart that she is, decided to play Angel of Death. She accidently nudged Mr. Laptop off the couch and put him out of his misery.
Prince Erik thinks he can save my 10 page long favorites list, and all those saved Blog Craft Ideas that I've been meaning to share. But I'm really hoping he can retrieve the last 6 months of photos.
So I guess that means I'm literally joining the kids in the no electronic month. No more blog therapy, for a little while that is. I hope it's not too long. Until then.... Later... I've got to go bury a laptop.
T-rev was kind enough to let me jump through the 10 layers of red-tape and passwords for a valuable minute to type up my farewell. Thanks T-rev, now I've got Halo and Home Star Runner on the brain from all your blings and blips you have hidden in your computer world.
Need to go find my Dream CD.

Yes, I'm Alive!

No, you don’t need to call to see if I’m still here. I know many of you have been wondering where I’ve been lately. And if you haven’t been wondering that’s o.k. too. Well I’ve been exactly where I’ve always been but going through internet with-drawl. Seems some yokel-local drove their pick-up truck into the town’s fiber optic cable line that supplies high speed internet to many in our small community. And it seems the cable company could only work on the line at night since it meant closing down a certain road. So two nights later (slow pokes), repairs completed, we finally have internet again. Wahoo!

Being without my cyber friends and family has sent me into major grumpy mode. I found myself checking the computer 10 to 15 times a day hoping they had fixed the problem; all this while knowing that the only time they would be working on it was overnight. Pathetic! A full grown lady sitting staring at a blank computer screen is not a good thing. And I found myself spacing off several times willing the computer to suddenly fix itself.

I have a hard time remembering how anyone survived before the internet, emails and blogs came along. Oh yes, there was the phone, backyard fence, clothesline or parking lot of the local post office where people would meet to discuss the latest gossip. And I guess they got their news from the radio or newspaper. But still, most of that would require actually getting up off a chair and moving.

So I guess this was my wake-up to how dependant I’ve been lately about spending time in front of the interactive box. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to actually pick up the phone, or send a real letter every now and then. But the computer is so much faster and faster is good when you are busy with a large family.

Still was a nice wake up call on my dependence on computers. I guess now I just need to add email, and the internet to my growing list of addictions.
