Unplugged - Day 1

So we all  survived our first day of being unplugged.   The kids did fabulous.  I however, was pacing the floor, craving my visits with my bloggy friends.  I can't believe how hard it is to avoid browsing on the computer.

The kids and I pulled out some of their favorite books while looking for fun stuff to do.   By far our favorite book was the one Lea got for her last Birthday.

2327

I, myself could spend hours reading it.  First written and published in 1887  and 1898, with a new forward in 1987.  It finally caught my attention this spring in it's 20th printing.

I love this book!!!  It's language, pictures, everything.

From it's pages you can learn how to make fans, corn husk dolls, pressed flower art, and a hammock of all things.

2330

It's a fascinating glimpse of American life back before the invention of the Easter Bunny and trick-or-treating in costumes for Halloween.  My girls and I are especially excited about a whole chapter devoted to the celebration of  May Day.

2331

Which brought back memories of our May Day celebration last year.  This year we want a May Pole.

How's this for a fun chapter heading.  Rubbish beats trash any old day.

2333

While the girls were writing down massive ideas of fun things to do.  I was brainstorming my studio by looking through this...

2338

We happen to be related to one of the ladies featured.  Although I didn't see that fit my style it was still a fun browse and got me inspired to only put things I love in my new room.

One of my inspiration pieces is this material which I happened upon last week.

 2339

My favorite colors in a FarmGirl toile.

2341

I can't wait to use it!!!

The kids kept themselves busy all afternoon.  Evoman turned tinfoil into...

2334

A wallet of all things.

2335

He loved how it looked but it thinking about re-enforcing it with clear packing tape.

Abner was back to painting his Miniature War Hammer pieces that he won in his video contest last February.

2337

And the whole family played T-rev's Star War's Monolopy.

2344

Let's hope the rest of the month goes this smoothly.

And as for the Rats.  Not only do we breed large mutant rats they are also smarter than we are.  The suckers cleaned the bait off of all seven, strategically placed traps not springing a single one of them.    So back to the drawing board.

Stinking vermin! We have yet to locate our little mouse. Hope you have tons and tons of fun doing family stuff this month! I've massively cut back on blogging and my other sewing activities; I was getting too worn out and feeling pretty guilty to boot. I'm trying to make more time for the kiddos, and by cutting back I don't think I've been as grouchy :)

Hi Fawn, how are you doing? I know it's been a while since you heard from me, but guess what. I finally, finally, finnnaaaalllyyy mailed your blog prize off today. Things got so out of control in my life and I just lost track on everything. So I hope you'll be getting your package soon, and I hope you like it. Take care "dear". :)

By the way, I need to unplug myself and unplug my son from his game. I'm still gradually working on it.

I think it so admirable what you are doing! I don't think I could do it! Serious... It would be tough!

Sorry about the rats! UGH! Good luck with those retched beasts!

I'm impressed that you had an unplugged day! What a great idea. Years ago our TV broke down and we didn't replace it for months. It was amazing how the kids got more creative in their play and they got outdoors more. Looks like you guys got your creative minds in gear! I've massively cut back on my blogging but mostly because work has really kicked up!

Good for you guys! I think we could do without TV, but I don't know what I would do without my blog browsing!

I made a bag out of the blue and white farm toile and I framed a portion of the black and white of the same print! I love it!
